Forged iron about 2 ½” width, shaped to the heel and worn as a single only. Rounded face frame with pyramidal form prick. Delicate octagonal terminals pierced for securing thongs. Exceptional excavated condition with hammer finish to the prick preserved. Probably a bog find which accounts for its preservation.  These are distinguished from Roman and north European examples which incorporate button terminal lugs to secure the thongs.
